Choosing the Right Slurry Pump - Darling Pumps

Slurry is a mixture of solids and liquid, generally water. The particles can be both abrasive & nonabrasive, although abrasive particles are very much common. The purpose to move slurry can be transporting as much solids particles as possible, hydraulically, along with the given liquid.

Slurry Pumps

Below are Common Characteristics of Slurries:
  • Abrasive
  • Thick consistency
  • Can contain a high amount of solids
  • Usually settle quickly

Slurry Types

Slurry can be further classified in to two types

Type 1: Settling Slurry
Type 2: Non-Settling Slurry

Settling slurries are formed by coarse particles that tend to form an unstable mixture. Particular attention should be given to flow and power calculations when selecting a pump. The majority of slurry applications are made up of coarse particles and because of this, have higher wear properties.

Non-settling slurries often have high viscosities and small particles, so they flow differently than settling slurries; there is much less segregation of the particles, and the particle concentration within the pipeline is nearly constant, or homogeneous.

Choosing the right pumps for specific slurries can help pump owners avoid unnecessary maintenance, repairs, and related downtime. In addition, proper pump applications make for safer work environments, offering those working on or around pumps peace of mind. Perhaps best of all, purpose-chosen slurry pumps also have longer wear lives, boosting owners’ bottom lines.

Some of the important parameters of slurries to consider when selecting a pump include:
  • Particle size, shape (angular, round, long and stringy) and hardness
  • Corrosiveness
  • Chemical compatibility with elastomer
  • Solids concentration
  • Likelihood of running dry

In case of slurry pumping, it is important to note that standard pump selection fundamentals might not stand true. Having set – rigid solutions for all type of slurries is just an eye wash. Slurry pumping solutions needs to be customized & that’s where Darling Pumps can make a difference. Contact us with your slurry pumping challenges & we will make it sure that you have unique solution for each of your slurry pumping challenge.

Wide Range of Dewatering Pumps India

Dewatering is no more about removing excess water from one place or another, it has lot of other challenges like dewatering sites are generally open to sky, prone to large amount of mud & debris & are often unmanned.
Pumps need to be moved to multiple locations & thus need to be easily portable. Pumps movement, fitment & electrical connections are often done by unskilled labourer & thus pumps are prone to damage during its movement or faulty electrical connections.

Dewatering Pumps

Many a times due to ignorance, omission emergency pumps are put in to operation directly on main supply without using control panel in between. Due to this, pumps are generally exposed to erratic power supply, whether used on electrical supply or supply through genset. Due to all these uncertainties site engineers have to live with frequent breakdown of pump sets due to dry running, single phasing or mechanical jamming.

Uses and Benefits of Sewage Submersible Pumps

Sewage pumps are different from regular submersible pumps because sewage pumps handle solid waste, not just liquids. If you currently have a septic system that tends to back up frequently, it may be time to consider a new sewage pump. The most common application for sewage pumps is for basement bathrooms and septic systems.

Because basement bathrooms are typically located below your sewage line, under your house, you need a pump that can effectively pump solid waste and water up and out of the house, against gravity. For this reason, sewage pumps offer a higher output than regular sump pumps. Sewage pumps are designed to run less frequently than a sump pump, but with more power to eject debris.

sewage submersible pump

When you have a septic system, sewage pumps break down waste and pump it out of your home into the septic tank. Investing in a high-quality sewage pump and maintaining it properly will give you peace of mind knowing that you have a reliable, functioning pump for years to come. Because, let’s face it, malfunctioning sewage pumps and septic system backups are no picnic, any time of the year.

Here the major benefits of having a sewage pump:
  • Prevent Flooding Damage – When heavy rains trigger a flood of water into your basement, you can quickly have 15 inches of flood water covering the floor and damaging almost everything inside, which can be especially devastating if you store valuable items in the basement. With a working sump pump, this disaster can be averted easily.
  • Reduce the Threat of Mold and Mildew –Continual dampness inside a basement from water in stagnant pools will contribute to the growth of mold and mildew. Not only are these both damaging to building material, but they are health problems as well.
  • Reduce the Risk of Fire –The water will short-circuit the appliances in the basement, such as laundry machines, water heaters, and heating systems. So, aside from ruining these valuable appliances, water can also create a fire danger. A sump pump will keep the water from threatening equipment that could trigger household fires.

Know The Basics of Raw Water Pumping

What is Raw Water?

Raw water is water found in the environment that has not been treated and does not have any of its minerals, ions, particles, bacteria, or parasites removed. Raw water is generally unsafe for human consumption due to the presence of contaminants. A major health problem in some developing countries is use of raw water for drinking and cooking.

Raw Water Source

The various sources of water can be classified into two categories:

Surface sources, such as Ponds, lakes, streams, rivers and storage reservoirs.

Sub surface sources or underground sources, such as Springs, infiltration wells, wells and tube-wells.

Darling Pumps has one of the most established ranges of pumps for raw water pumping. These pumps are not only useful for pumping out river water, but can very well be modified to pump out sea water as well.

What is Sewage Water and Why is it Produced?

Sewage water is waste water from people living in a community. It is the water released from households after use for various purposes like shower, bathtub, washing machine, dishwasher, kitchen sink and toilet, thus the name waste water. Sewage pumps transport sewage and untreated waste water.

Reasons for Production of Sewage Water

Submersible Sewage Pumps
1. The use of toilets as bins – Toilets are designated as fixtures for relieving nature calls. Sadly, careless people have turned toilets into deposit banks for waste materials such as papers, sanitary products and some even go to the extent of flushing plastics. These waste materials are the causes of blockages of sewage ways in most buildings. Blockages lead to over flooding of the toilets served by that sewer.

2. Cooking fats – Kitchen products have a lot of fats and oil. Greasy dishes are also washed in kitchen sinks. These materials are very fast at accumulating at the walls of the pipes where they form coverings that reduce the diameter of the pipe system which drain waste water into the sewer.Continued disposal of fats, oil and grease in sinks subsequently leads to complete blockage of the sewage system. This is even more hazardous than the blockage caused by toilet

3. Overcapacity of wastewater – Sewers are built to accommodate a certain volume of waste water. Nevertheless, there are various reasons why sewers overflow. For starters, there are contractors who on construction of buildings end up connecting the sewage system of the new building to the existing sewer made for another residential building. This leads to overflowing of the sewer which is hazardous to human health and can cause acute viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases like typhoid, gastroenteritis, and Hepatitis A.

4. Flooding – Flooding is also another factor that increases waste water. When there is excessive rain, as the water seeks for a pathway, it seeps into sewers and mixes with the waste water leading to more waste water in the sewer. If the volume of the sewer is small, chances are that the sewer system will be unable to hold the increasing volume of water thereby causing sewer pollution.

5. Improper handling of wastewater – It is a practice commonly done by industries. Industries use a lot of water, and for this reason, release most of it as waste water. As it is expected, the industries should treat the same water and bring it back into the industry machinery for reuse.

6. Root infiltration - Tree roots can be a cause of pollution of waste water. They enter sewer lines at certain points and crack the pipes or underground sewer tanks leading to seeping of filthy waste water out of the sewers.

Today, water treatment, its conservation, recycling & its reuse has assumed a greater significance. Thus, the demand for pumping / treating waste water is going up steadily. The present methods are also more versatile & thus demand greater reliability as far as pumping needs are concerned.

If you are searching for ideal submersible sewage pumps that provide the best solution for sewage pumping in India, come to Darling Pumps today. Darling Pumps having worked effectively in this sector can offer reliable & effective pumping solution.
